Namaste! Welcome!
Welcome to my website! I hope you'll enjoy learning about me and my expeditions. I recently completed climbing fourteen of Colorado's "Fourteeners," our famed 14,000+ foot mountains, in eight days to raise awareness and for Pulmonary Hypertension. You can follow me and my adventures on Twitter.
Last year I was fortunate to summit climb of Aconcagua (22,841 ft) my third of the Seven Summits in December 2008. In June 2008 I successfully summitted the highest points of Europe, Mount Elbrus (18,510 ft) in southern Russia and Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro (19,341 ft) located in Tanzania. In spring 2007 I trekked to Nepal's Everest Base Camp and climbed Kala Patar (18,550 ft). I'll be updating my website soon to share my ambitious 2010 summer expedition plans!

Thank You Mountain Hardwear
Mountain Hardwear generously supports Matt's 14/14ers expedition with a $1000 contribution to the Iain Hess Breathe Easy Fund for the team's ascent of Mt. Elbert, Colorado's highest peak!
Mountain Harwear also provided gear from their 2009 Youth Apparel line for the expedition. Needless to say, the gear was both very cool and stood up to the challenges of the Colorado high country. Big thumbs up for MHW!

Pulmonary Hypertension - Walk in My Shoes Climb for a Cure - Fourteen 14ers in Fourteen Days
What if by climbing a mountain you could experience a day in the life of your best friend as he fights a complex life-threatening disease? You would know the same shortness of breath after walking a few steps, the same fatigue, dizziness and throbbing neck veins that your friend lives with every day, symptoms of a destructive disease that currently has no cure.
On July 10, 2009, Matthew Moniz and a core team of five climbers did just that. The team climbed fourteen of Colorado’s famed 14,000 foot peaks, commonly known as the “14ers”, in a short eight days to cover a total of 41,000 vertical feet and 72 miles. This breath-taking endeavor gave each of the climbers a first-hand sense of a typical day in the life of a patient with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). (read more)
